The SOAR program, of Scholarships for Outstanding Airmen to ROTC, allows enlisted personnel to separate from active duty and receive a scholarship worth up to $18,000 per year while pursuing their commission through Air Force ROTC. Students may not pay the difference to. Since RNs must hold a college degree to join the Air Force, they qualify to become direct commission officers. Between being accepted and officially enlisting, RNs undergo five weeks of COT. The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) is an in-college, officer-commissioning program that adds a layer of military training to your education. Upon successful completion of the AFROTC training program and receipt of at least a bachelor's degree, you will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Navy Reserve Direct Commissioning Program allows university-educated professionals, between ages 19 to 35 (or older, in some cases), the opportunity to be appointed as an officer in the Navy.

The Air Force Personnel Center is accepting applications from active-duty enlisted Airmen for the Nurse Enlisted (NECP) and Direct Enlisted Commissioning Programs (DECP) through March 16, 2018. NECP offers the opportunity to earn a baccalaureate degree in nursing. The DECP allows Airmen to commission into the Nurse Corps if they already possess a nursing degree. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens with rank of senior airman or higher and no more than 10 years total active federal service (12 years for DECP). The Air Force in August will launch its first test of a turbo-charged commissioning program that seeks to turn senior enlisted airmen into officers in as quick as 14 training days.

The beta test of the Officer Training School-Accelerated Commissioning Program will take place at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama, and shorten OTS from its current length of 40 training days, Air Education and Training Command officials said in a Wednesday release.
The first test will include 36 senior noncommissioned officer candidates, AETC said.
